You can tell a classic song by the people who record it and a standard by the number of people who record it. With a list of legendary performers that includes Judy Collins, Neil Young, Bobby Bare, The Searchers and Waylon Jennings, Ian Tyson’s "Four Strong Winds" certainly applies to both of these descriptions. It is the title cut to Ian & Sylvia’s magnificent second release for Vanguard. Where Northern Journey was a beautiful "northern" folk collection, Four Strong Winds is notable for its greater diversity of material. Traditional gospel, blues, Old English ballads, old-time country and even a lovely reading of Bob Dylan’s "Tomorrow Is A Long Time" (the first-ever recording of it!) combine to make a memorable collection.

Mastered from the original half-inch session tapes, Four Strong Winds has immediacy, natural imaging and wide dynamic range - elements sadly missing from most modern recordings. Listening to this record is a thrilling experience for anybody who loves great music and you-are-there sound.
